Tom lamaine biography

Tom Lamaine defines what it means to be a broadcaster.

Known primarily for his long stint as the morning weather anchor at Channel 3, Lamaine began at the station as a part-timer juggling sports and weather.

Before that, he spent more than a decade at WIP (then AM) doing everything from spinning pop hits to covering sports.

He also had a stint as the arena announcer at ’76ers basketball games.

A broadcaster, to me, is someone is able to walk into any assignment that involves a microphone or camera. He or she may specialize, as Tom eventually did with weather, but the hallmark of a broadcaster is being game for hosting any event, interviewing any celebrity or newsmaker, jumping into any on-air role, or doing a cooking spot.

Lamaine can do all of the above, which is why he earns his accolade of Person of the Year from the Broadcast Pioneers, who will confer the honor at a ceremony next Friday, Nov.
